maybe I'm a lapsed playwright. Not sure - but as an audience member lately I've been thinking about what does (and doesn't) create immersion in the story and a sense of pace. So often i'm watching scenes that seem to be "working" and yet the sense being artificial doesn't really leave. There is a feeling of "the playwright wants me to be excited / sad/ happy now" rather than oh wow - that scene makes me feel excited / sad/ happy. Does that make sense?
