What I Learned in My First Month Coaching Creatives
Lessons about trust, balance, and small changes that make a big difference
A short time ago, I officially opened up coaching spaces for creative people — and it's been an incredible learning curve already. It’s also validated an internal pull that I’ve had for years. I can’t tell you - the work brings me so much joy.
I started offering coaching for a tonne of reasons. I believe creative people deserve more than "just hustle harder" advice - which a lot of the time is bullshit. I believe artists need specialised psychologists just like athletes have. I believe that creative people are often made to feel like they don’t deserve high-quality self-care because their job is implicitly more ‘fun’ than ‘real jobs’. We deserve spaces where we can reflect, realign, and move forward without burning out.
1. Creative people are harder on themselves than they realize.
Every client I’ve worked with so far carries a huge inner critic. Even the most talented writers, artists, and makers second-guess their instincts. One of the most powerful shifts has been helping people permit themselves to trust their own creative voice again. That can be a slow process, as self-flagellation is often a difficult habit to break.
2. Balancing creativity, mental health, and ambition is hard — and that’s normal.
There’s a lot of noise telling creatives we should have it all figured out. But growth rarely looks clean. Every creative I’ve spoken to is figuring it out one messy step at a time — and that’s not a failure; it’s part of the process. Social media would have us believe we’re only one great hack away from perfect harmony. That’s never the case, and that’s okay.
3. Small shifts make huge differences.
One client and I had an incredibly practical conversation about their calendar to ensure they were getting the time they needed to commit to a large-scale creative project. Another found that saying "no" once a week gave them enough emotional space to finish a significant project. Big transformations start with small, intentional changes.
I’m learning just as much as I’m teaching — and I’m grateful to be walking alongside so many brilliant creative minds.
If you're a creative person who's feeling a little stuck, a little stretched, or just ready for your next step, I’m opening limited spots for May.
I'm offering free 15-minute intro sessions — no pressure, just a conversation.
Feel free to reach out if you’re curious!
