Friends,

I fear this is late, but here we are. Thank you to those who joined the book club last month. The Discord server is still open for paid subscribers. And while the conversation has been, um, not exactly on fire, I can confirm there are people in it, and they do intend to read books. However, I don’t know a single book club on the planet where people diligently read books and talk about them. The books become an excuse to meet and talk and have a community, and the community will continue to grow.

Last month, I chose Tom Lake and Chain-Gang All Stars. Two radically different books that I enjoyed very much. Tom Lake is a cosy, wry romance. Chain-Gang All-Stars is a form-breaking dystopia that pierces the American Justice system.

This month, I’m going in a different direction. I’m spotlighting two authors, not specific books. And I’m pleased to say they’re two writers who have plenty of short stories and short novels that are very easy to read or listen to and have plenty of grounds for conversation. They are also ‘classics’ that one ‘should read’ if you believe in such things.

I've included details of those writers below for paid subscribers, along with the Discord link and more. I would love you to join the party.
